Polution
On the way into work today I was listening to NPR like I do every morning and they were discussing legislation for polution credits. Basically there would be an amount of polution that would be allowed each year and this would be distributed to each company in some fashion. Those who did not use all there credits could sell there extra to companies who wanted to polute more. The issue is should the government charge companies for these credits (worth an estimated 400billion dollars) or give them away.
The main problem is that this will hurt the lower and middle class because it will raise the cost of energy and other products. This would also increase corporate pockets and hurt consumers. One of the proposed solutions to this would be tax credits to the lower/middle class to help combat these rising cost.
To me that sounds a lot like communism. A lot like another government agency that will be limiting capitalism and negatively impacting our economy. This is not an acceptable solution to our current global warming perception. The solution is a system in which corporations are held accountable to reducing polution and waste. An increase in consumer knowledge and increase personal accountability.
